The Project Why visit our country? Because ... has the recognition
Why visit our country? Because ...
1. Pupils to introduce themselves via email/letter/voki/presentation/animoto/smile box etc…;
2. As a group, pupils to introduce their school via a short film;
3. Pupils from each country to work collaboratively to produce a calendar for 2012. Each country to choose an image(s) depicting their country for set months of the year to be included in the final calendar. Images to be uploaded to twinspace for all countries to see and comment on. Individual countries to have responsibility for set months and to prepare a calendar page using Microsoft Publisher or similar software (to be agreed beforehand to make sure that all countries can access the software). The month will show the days of the week in English and that country’s mother tongue. Also it would be good to show any national days/festivals etc relating to that country. All months to be uploaded to twinspace by end of November. I don’t mind putting the final calendar together as we have a big resource centre next to the school that can help. I will then mail a calendar to each school in readiness for the New Year;
4. Devise a journey from our schools to our partner schools in different stages, e.g. getting to the airport, flight/ferry, transfer to the school from airport etc. For each stage, pupils could describe the journey and costs, places visited and post photographs to the twinspace;
5. Look at the different tourist attractions in our own country/area – why do they feel they attract tourists? Compare our capital cities in terms of what they offer tourists. We could do this by making short films/presentations;
6. Discuss the effect that pupils feel that tourism has on our local area. What are the environmental/social issues and if they feel that tourism is sustainable;
7. Discuss similarities and differences in climate between partner countries. Data can be uploaded to twinspace at regular intervals throughout the year and put into spreadsheet models and graphs created and uploaded to twinspace;
8. Discuss the traditional foods in our respective countries. Pupils could exchange and make recipes and make a cookery book for their own country to be exchanged with partners or complied into one joint book containing photos of the pupils making the different foods; and notable photos of ingredients taken in the local food market.
9. Do a historical tourist route or trail from Pre-history to XXI century in our region or country. Students choose and classify in timeline the outstanding heritage items to be included.
